A small West Texas community with hometown values, local pride, and a commitment to serving residents.
About Forsan
Forsan is a small, incorporated city in southeastern Howard County, Texas, situated about 14 miles southeast of Big Spring. With a population of roughly 250 residents, the close-knit, rural community is known for its tranquil environment, history in the Permian Basin oil boom, and highly spirited high school.
History & Name Origin: Forsan was established in 1928 when local pioneer Clayton Stewart donated land for the townsite. The name is a nod to the "Four Sands" (oil-producing sand formations) that speculators believed were located in the area. Drillers later discovered there were at least five sands, but the town's famous name had already stuck.
